Variables and constants are used to keep track of data in your app. Any bits that are moved beyond the bounds of the integer’s storage are discarded. On line 4 in the screenshot below, we print sum on each iteration of the loop. But there’s a big difference between the two equal sign operators. In this case, because we want to use present only if it isn’t empty, we check that it’s not equal to nil. Using license plates as keys is a good example because they’re unique. As a reminder, we have class definitions for Person, Employee which extends Person, and Manager which extends Employee. One issue with that is you can’t access any members (functions or properties) of nil, so we need a way to check if an optional variable is not empty before we try accessing its members. Overflow behavior is trapped and reported as an error. What if we wanted to change cars but keep the same license plate? The value that remains within the bounds of the UInt8 after the overflow addition is 00000000, or zero. This saves us a lot of time and effort from defining classes that do similar things.
